Your Health Actions Today Determine Your Future

Whatever your age, the lifestyle actions you do now, will determine what you are like 10 years from now.

Understanding the Marginal Decade

Doctors who specialize in Aging, say your health actions at 50 determines your 60s. Your health actions at 60 determines your 70s. AND then…everyone falls off a cliff at 75. Ha! It’s called the Marginal Decade.
BUT…the good news is the actions you have been doing the past decade, past year and today DETERMINE how you live that marginal decade past 75!

Many of us will now live into our 90’s. Aging doctors encourage us to train for this decade starting now. Actions now make the marginal decade and beyond a better experience-allowing one to be active, social and independent.

A Real Example: My Mom Lived to 101

My mom lived to a 101. She was still mentally sharp and exercised. She traveled to Hawaii every winter until she was 95. She demonstrated you can still have joy and a good quality of life! Exercising consistently made a difference! Start simply:

Simple Actions to Start Now

  • You don’t have to be a gym rat - just do simple movement actions targeting typical aging areas: i.e. balance practice (standing on one foot or walking a line),
  • simple strength (so you maintain ability to get up from the floor or chair). Maybe start with 5 squats before bed or use some weights.
  • working your heart daily, walk, dance, swim, bike, ski.
One of my actions in this next 5 years for Aging Well is focusing on cardiovascular fitness and practicing activities where “balance” and “getting up” are a continued part of my routine.

Why I Love Hiking

This is why I love hiking. Uneven ground for balance, you go up and down for your heart and often times you practice getting up when I sit on a rock to enjoy the beauty.

What Will You Do?
