Adding Movement to Your Day Burns Calories!
Adding Movement to Your Day Burns Calories!
Way before cell phones, people only had landlines. There was a study years ago that when a person added 1 extension phone to their homes and stopped running for the phone as much, they stopped burning 150 calories per day. This doesn’t sound like much but if they didn’t change anything else in their life they would gain 1 lb. of weight in a year. In 10 years each person would have gained 10 lbs. Now think about cell phones. You just reach in your pocket. You click the remote for your TV. We have far less actual movement in our days due to technology and labor saving devices. This definitely can add to weight gain. To avoid this we need to start adding movement and actually doing things the hard way. Here are some suggestions:
During a break take a quick walk
Walk over to your coworkers desk instead of emailing or texting
Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Start walking up one and down 2 flights. My husband worked on the 7th floor. He decided to stop taking the elevator and walked up and down 7 flights. It made a big difference in his fitness level and didn’t take any more time than waiting for the elevator.
Park farther away
Bike to work
Take an exercise class over lunch or right after work
While you’re cooking do push-ups, squats, crunches or dance while waiting for something to simmer of boil.
Every couple of hours, do exercises at your desk to prevent back & neck problems
Sit on a stability ball. Use the stability ball for core exercises.
Do interval training
Spontaneously Dance around home
Spend 10-15 minutes on core, back, arm & leg strength.
