Why Exercise after a Holiday Meal!
I read a short article by Wayne Kalyn in October 30th Parade Magazine. It made a lot of sense and is a simple thing you can do to stay healthier during the holidays. My sisters and I used to put in an exercise video and exercise after out Thanksgiving dinner. (Well, 2 of my sisters. The 3rd one laid on the couch and pointed out to us what we were doing wrong!) Don’t lay on the couch. Get up and walk or exercise. It pays off!
Here are reasons why going for a walk after Thanksgiving dinner will improve your health:
It’s good for digestion! - Movement aids in processing & metabolizing calories.
It’s calming. Be in nature. You get a double benefit because nature actually helps you feel happier and it improves your memory and concentration!
- Physical Activity increases blood flow to the brain!
Controls blood sugar.
- Blood sugar spikes 1 hour after a meal so ideal to walk then, so clean up first and then go for a walk.
You’ll sleep better!
You’ll strengthen family bonds.
- University of Illinois research shows moms & preteen daughters get along better after a 20 minute walk together.
It is a simple action you can take an hour after Thanksgiving, so get out there and move!
